Vegan at KRAMIS
In major cities such as Zurich, Basel and Berlin, the vegan wave has fully arrived. When asked by external architect and designer Christoph Missall whether KRAMIS also offers vegan carpets, Tim Kramis confirmed this. In the showroom of the Swiss carpet manufacturer, there are pure linen carpets that stand out due to their high sheen. The designer jokes on and wishes for a vegan cowhide and designs the “4 cows at the water trough” rug.
And because the cows didn't die, they are still drinking from the water trough today.

Design Christoph Missall
Architect, Designer and Visionary
Christoph Missall, a trained carpenter and experienced architect and designer, has successfully implemented creative projects in Germany, Austria and Switzerland over many years. His work follows a deeply rooted design approach that places the idea at the center: “In the beginning there is the idea, and then the form follows the function.” The creative vision takes priority, while functionality is harmoniously integrated in the second step.
In addition to his practical work, Missall has spent decades in Berlin encouraging young people in design and today contributes his extensive expertise to the training of master carpenters at the chambers of crafts in Berlin and Constance.
On the creation of his vegan cowhide rug, Missall explains:
“For me, designing an interior also involves designing a rug that brings the qualities of the room into dialog with the furniture. I was inspired by a childhood memory of my grandfather's brown cowhide. However, due to ethical concerns, I was unable to implement this memory directly. Instead, I came up with the idea of a vegan cowhide rug. While I was working on this design, I imagined cows standing peacefully around a trough on a mountain pasture. The rest is geometry and artistic freedom.”
An architect from Munich aptly described the finished work as “a piece of nature framed in geometry”, while an interior designer and artist from Ratingen preferred the carpet in a version with blue patches, in homage to Yves Klein. An interior designer from Bayreuth wanted a square version, as she saw more design possibilities for such a shape in the room.
The design was very well received by the Kramis company, especially because they managed to make the 100% linen rug look almost like real fur.

Rug care - 4 Kühe am Wassertrog
With the "4 Kühe am Wassertrog" model, you can use a conventional vacuum cleaner with a floor nozzle. It is important that the brush is retracted and the vacuum cleaner tube is pulled in a slow movement from the remote position to the body. Important: do not rub.
On the following video you can see the execution of how to properly vacuum the rug.
Remove stains - 4 Kühe am Wassertrog
If the stain is still wet, you can put an absorbent cloth on it to draw up the liquid. After that, you can dab the spot dry as best as you can. Now you need the following cleaning kit so that we can proceed.
Buy the rug cleaning kit in the shop
Have you received the cleaning kit? - Then you can now proceed: Sprinkle the Kobosan powder on the stain and gently massage the spot with the brush. After 30 minutes, you can vacuum up the powder again with a vacuum cleaner tube. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.
On the following video you can see the execution of this.
